Features
Tablet-based software
The GeriJoy companion runs as software on a standard, consumer tablet, such as Apple's iPad or any number of Google Android devices. Place the tablet in a convenient position such as your loved one's nightstand, and once plugged in, the companion and its virtual environment will constantly be displayed on the screen. Because the companion is not a physical robot, and has no physical constraints due to motors or sensors, what it can do within its virtual environment is practically unlimited. We continually offer free software updates that expand its capabilities and add features requested by our users.
Conversation-based intelligent interaction
Your loved one can talk with the GeriJoy companion the same way they would talk to another person in the room. The sound is streamed over the Internet to a live GeriJoy representative, known as a Helper. The Helper uses GeriJoy's technology to create appropriate responses (e.g. saying something in reply) instantly. Thus, the GeriJoy companion behaves with true intelligence and compassion. This makes adoption incredibly easy, no matter your loved one's physical and mental capabilities. Zero typing and zero technical skills required. Our Helpers work around the clock, allowing the GeriJoy companion to keep your loved one company 24/7.
Touch-based pet interaction
The GeriJoy companion has sophisticated, patent-pending software developed at MIT. This technology allows the virtual pet to interact with your loved one the same way that a live animal would. It enjoys being petted, and it responds to touch and care from your loved one in a way that creates the emotional health benefits of pet therapy. By feeding and caring for the pet over time, seniors who have little or no other life responsibilities anymore can once again feel needed.
Photos and updates from family
GeriJoy makes it easy for family members to share photos and life events with their loved one. When you subscribe to GeriJoy's service, you will be able to use our Family Portal website to easily upload photos, updates, and other family content to GeriJoy. The GeriJoy companion intuitively shows this content to your loved one throughout the week, and engages them in conversations about the content. This helps to keep older loved ones in the loop about what's going in the the family, and for seniors with Alzheimer's, can be very helpful in reinforcing family memories and relationships.
Information and news at any time
Your loved one can ask the GeriJoy companion questions at any time. For example, if they want to know what activities at the care facility are being held today, or what the weather is like outside, they can ask their companion and it will tell them. These capabilities are supported by our Helpers, who look up the answers and respond appropriately. Your loved one can benefit from the information and convenience of the Internet without even knowing what a computer is.
Personal, daily updates about your loved one
Our Helpers log the content of their conversations with your loved one, and keep track of important findings and events throughout the day, every day. Whenever you access the Family Portal, you can see these logs, giving you a personal, inside view of how your loved one is doing, even if they are living alone or in a care facility.
